A car reported stolen, and spotted by its owner near Nye and Airport, was followed by its owner to an area off east 5th and Allouette yesterday afternoon. There Sheriff’s Deputies tried to pull it over but the driver took off down 5th. From there Orasio Gutierrez-Murillo led officers on a fast moving chase through the downtown area. At one point, officers thought they had Gutierrez-Murillo boxed in on the west side of the Community Center, but he rammed a deputies vehicle and took off across the grass and onto Highway 50 East.
Gutierrez-Murillo headed east on Highway 50 at a fairly high rate of speed, crossing over the Lyon County line where units watched him hit a car that had just pulled out from a driveway. Gutierrez-Murillo ran from the crash and was found a short time later in a residential back yard. Meanwhile, the couple in the car that was hit was flown by Careflight to Renown in Reno with what were described as non life-threatening injuries.
Gutierrez-Murillo was also taken to Renown based on the severity of the accident, but was cleared and immediately returned to Carson City where he was booked into the city jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, possession of stolen property, eluding police and endangering people, obstructing police officers, no driver’s license and possession of meth. His bail, $25,000. Officers say Gutierrez was under the influence of meth when they apprehended him, and that he had violated the terms of his probation on an earlier charge. So an additional $10,000 bail amount was placed on him. Gutierrez-Murillo reportedly had already been deported back to Mexico once on an earlier conviction.
