A 40-year-old man is being held on more than $1 million bail after leading Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on a pursuit through the west side of Carson City late Wednesday night, ending when he crashed a stolen vehicle he was driving into a shed and tree near the Governor's Mansion.
Brian Eugene Kakowski, whose hometown was unavailable Thursday morning, has a felony criminal warrant for his arrest for suspicion of first degree robbery out of Riverside, Calif., with a $1 million bail. Kakowski faces additional charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, being an ex-felon with a stun gun and misdemeanor speeding, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without headlights.
According to the arrest report, deputies patrolling at around 10:22 p.m. spotted a white 2007 Saturn Aura with paper license plates speeding northbound on Carson Street. Deputies stopped Kakowski who was asked to produce a driver's license.
The man told officers he had a California license and admitted to smoking marijuana earlier. The man gave officers a false name and Social Security number which didn't come back with a match. The man was told to step out of the vehicle, in which he told officers "I can't do that." He then put the vehicle into drive and sped away.
The pursuit went westbound on Second Street, vanished and was located on Carson and John streets where the man turned off his headlights. The chase ended when Kakowski hit the tree and shed on Mountain and Spear streets. He attempted to jump out of the car but deputies stopped him ordering him to the ground.
Officers conducted a check of the vehicle which came back as stolen. The man was in possession of a CO2 pellet hand gun. A vehicle search came up with a small bag of marijuana. Inside a backpack was a flashlight taser weapon, night vision wear, a police scanner and other property.
He was taken to jail where it was learned that he had a warrant for his arrest out of Riverside Superior Court in California for robbery with a $1 million bail. His criminal history shows an extremely lengthy list of crimes including several felonies. With the Carson City charges, the man's final bail is set at $1,045,000.
