UPDATE 4:35PM: The following is from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong regarding the vehicle pursuit and crash that happened Tuesday afternoon on North Roop Street:

At approximately 12:45 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve a warrant on Jose Alberto Garcia-Perez, 24, for Luring a Child to Engage in Sexual Conduct (Felony), Open and Gross Lewdness with a Child (Gross Misdemeanor), and Statutory Sexual Seduction (Felony). The warrant carried with it a bail of $40,000.

As detectives attempted to contact Garcia-Perez, he fled the area in his vehicle. A short pursuit of the suspected ended approximately 2 minutes later when Garcia-Perez rear-ended another vehicle on North Roop Street near Beverly Way. The victim’s vehicle was forced from the roadway through a fence, and the suspect’s vehicle rolled to a stop in the center of the road. Garcia-Perez continued to refuse to comply with officers and had to be forcefully removed from his vehicle, where he was eventually taken into custody.

Garcia-Perez was transported to the hospital for treatment following the incident. He is expected to be booked later this evening.

Roop Street remained closed while an accident investigation was completed by the Nevada Highway Patrol. No other injuries were reported. As a result of the incident, additional charges are pending.

UPDATE: A man is in custody after a brief vehicle pursuit Tuesday afternoon on North Roop Street that ended with a vehicle crash. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong the incident happened at around 1 p.m. and involved a deputy who attempted to make a traffic stop on an black Audi sedan, in which the man had at least one felony warrant.

Jose Garcia-Perez was booked on suspicion of a warrant for open and gross lewdness with a child, felony statutory sexual seduction, and felony luring a child to engage in sexual conduct, said Lt. Brian Humphrey. The chase happened after deputies attempted to serve the warrants, Humphrey said, noting that two detectives were serving the warrants near a Tiger Drive residence.

The man fled from deputies striking a second vehicle across from the cemetery, launching it into a fence. The suspect would not get out of the vehicle, said Furlong, and had to be forcibly removed. The incident blocked traffic at North Roop and Beverly.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The victim in the second sedan was not injured but his vehicle had significant damage to the rear and front end.

We will update as more information becomes available.
