Vehicle chase ends at Carson City Airport with crash; suspect dies

UPDATE 9:12PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed a deputy in a patrol vehicle was hit by the suspect vehicle near the Maverik gas station in the 1400 block of College Parkway during the pursuit. The deputy was uninjured. The suspect who died after being ejected when he crashed through the gates at Carson City Airport and slammed into a hanger, has not been identified.
The crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 8:30PM: The suspect's vehicle, a pickup, that was involved in the hit and run pursuit and was stolen, crashed into a hangar at the Carson City Airport. The suspect died at the scene.

A vehicle chase involving several Carson City sheriff's deputies ended when the suspect blew through the gates at Carson City Airport, rolled the vehicle several times and died at the scene.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. in which the suspect driver led deputies on a pursuit after a hit and run crash. According to dispatch transmission, the suspect vehicle hit a patrol vehicle during the chase and then fled at a high rate of speed, going upwards of 70 mph, running through the gates at the airport.

Care Flight was initially called but the suspect was said to be dead at the scene, according to dispatch. A coroner is on its way.

The original hit and run happened in the 1700 block of North Edmonds.

The suspect was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews are responding.

College Parkway is shut down at Nye. Nevada Highway Patrol is responding.
