A car chase tonight through north and west Carson City caused a two-vehicle accident at Mountain and Winnie streets with a deputy being injured after being rammed by the suspect's vehicle.

The chase involved a red Ford Ranger that wouldn't stop for a patrol officer who has apparently suffered injuries to his hands, knee and shoulder after the suspect reportedly rammed into the patrol car head-on, reports Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The pursuit, which reportedly reached speeds of 33 mph through residential neighborhoods, began as a dispute at the Carson Nugget after threats were made to security officers there, Furlong said. The patrol deputy began to trail the suspect's vehicle and that's when the chase began, Furlong added.

The chase, described as "low-speed" by the sheriff, went down Fleischman, Fall and Bath streets after 9 p.m., before ending at Mountain and Winnie streets at around 9:20 p.m. At least two vehicles were side-swiped during the chase and the suspect may have been drunk, Furlong said.

The injured deputy and the suspect were taken to the hospital, Furlong said. The injuries to the deputy don't appear to be life-threatening. The deputy reported to dispatchers that he had been hit. The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the accident as required by policy and procedure, Furlong said.

Meanwhile, at about 9:45 tonight a single vehicle accident with injuries was reported in the westbound lane of Highway 50 halfway up Spooner Summit. Carson City sheriff's deputies, Tahoe Douglas Fire and Rescue and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded.
