A Carson City sheriff’s deputy has provided more details into Thursday’s burglary of Wash Tubs laundry in the 3100 block of Highway 50 East. A brief foot chase led to arrest of the suspect, Nicholas Stockwell, 22, who faces felony burglary and two misdemeanors charges. He is being held on $26,126 bail at Carson City Jail.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the business at shortly before 11 a.m. after learning Stockwell had allegedly pried open a cash register, took money and ran from the location. Dispatch advised the man was being followed by a patron of the business and he was seen running east on Woodside Drive toward Continental Drive.

Deputies saw Stockwell running west on Selby Drive into the backyard of homes on La Loma. He removed his shirt as he was running and was wearing only a white tank top and black shorts. Deputies attempted to stop him but he jumped another fence into the backward of a home south on La Loma Drive and then ran across Terrace Park toward Monte Rosa Drive.

He then jumped the backyard fence of a home in the 1300 block of Monte Rosa Drive and then broke down the fence on the southeast side of the property, which is where officers arrested him at 11:04 a.m.

In a search officers located a large amount of money in his right pant pocket. The amount of money had matched the amount missing from the register. Two witnesses positively identified Stockwell as the man who had pried open the cash register, took the money and ran from the location.

He faces the felony burglary charge, and misdemeanor charges of resisting officers and destruction of property.
