More than 15,000 cans of tuna were collected with the help of an area real estate agency that will go to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada as part of its Run on Tuna campaign, a canned food drive that’s part of Hunger Action Month.
Chase International’s Reno office agents and their affiliates partnered with the nonprofit, which collected 15,063 cans of tuna in the fifth year of the Run On Tuna event. As of this year, Run on Tuna has collected and donated over 48,000 cans of tuna since 2011.
“We are thrilled to partner with Run on Tuna, an event that makes such a big difference in our community,” said Michelle Sturge with the Reno Chase International Office. “It’s a great way for our staff to get involved in the Reno-Tahoe region and to support Chase’s heart-centered real estate philosophy.”
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada provides emergency food services to families through a network of more than 135 partner agencies in a 90,000 square mile service area throughout northern Nevada and the eastern slope of the sierra in California.
It serves more than 103,000 people each month, half of whom are children and seniors. Last fiscal year, it provided more than 15.3 million meals to neighbors who were hungry. The Food Bank also plays a leading role in collaborating with other committed northern Nevada community members and organizations to address the root causes of hunger.
Donations exceeded this year’s goal by over 50 percent.
“It’s amazing what happens when we all pitch in together,” said De De Rosene, founder of Run on Tuna. “Our goal was to collect over 10,000 cans, so we were more than pleased that we exceeded the goal by so much. We couldn’t do this without the many donations from businesses such as Chase International who with their business affiliates, we count as part of our collective generous supporters in the Reno-area community.”
